Placement Policies

We believe that it is an integral part of our program that our potential puppy buyers be a part of our program. By doing this, not only do they benefit, but so do the puppies by the interaction with the "strangers". Therefore, below is a brief explanation of what can be expected when you choose to purchase one of our puppies.

The information on this page is important, please read this page before contacting us with questions that may very well be answered here.

We reserve the right to refuse to sell to anyone at any time.

We do NOT sell to pet shops or other person(s) for resale.

Our German Shepherd puppies do not leave our home until 8 weeks of age. At that time, the puppies will have age appropriate vaccinations, age appropriate wormings, and a clean bill of health from our veterinarian.

We can also give you a referral to a good breeder that may have what you are looking for or you can ask to be added to our "Wait List".

Contracts / Health Guarantee

Our German Shepherd puppies are sold on a written contract with a five (5) year Health - Genetic Guarantee.

Life's Abundance Supplements

Our German Shepherd Dogs and Puppies receive Life's Abundance supplements. We believe so strongly in this supplement, that the continuation of our puppies receiving these supplements are a condition of sale and the health guarantee. Information on Life's Abundance Supplements.

Life's Abundance Dog Food

Reserving A Puppy

Due to many inquiries about our German Shepherd puppies, we can only reserve your puppy if a deposit is made. Puppies with a deposit are listed as "Reserved" on the "Available" page. Puppies that are paid-in-full are listed as "Sold" on the "Available" page.

A puppy is only designated as reserved upon our receipt of the required deposit funds. We only produce a limited number of litters each year, and this is the only way to make sure your puppy is reserved.

Deposit Information

In order to reserve your puppy, we require a non-refundable deposit of one-half (1/2) of the stated purchase price for that puppy. The balance due on the purchase price (including any shipping or delivery costs - see Shipping/Delivery) is due and payable on or before one week (7 days) prior to the puppy leaving our home. The Contract must be read, agreed to, signed and returned to Chenoa German Shepherds prior to any puppy being shipped. Therefore, make sure you read, understand, and agree to the terms of our Contract before reserving a puppy and sending a deposit.

All deposits are non-refundable unless, for some reason, we are unable to provide you with a puppy. If for some unforeseen reason the puppy you have placed on "Reserve" becomes unavailable (through an act of nature), then a puppy of like quality will be offered either from an existing litter or an upcoming litter. If you choose not to accept the replacement, the deposit is forfeited.

Accepted Forms of Payment

Only the following forms of payment are accepted: cash, credit cards (via PayPal), direct deposit, and Paypal. If you choose to use Paypal for payment, the 3.9% fee that PayPal charges will be added to the total cost, including any shipping/delivery. You will receive written confirmation either by e-mail or United States mail of our receipt of your payment.

PayPal payments are accepted through the PayPal site which is a secure site for such transactions. Please review PayPal's privacy policy for the types of information they may collect on its' users.

Shipping/Delivery Information

If you are within the state of Ohio, we prefer to have you come to our home to pick up your puppy as we like to meet the people that we are entrusting our babies to. If you cannot come to our home, we can make arrangements to meet you, but we will charge you for the cost of gasoline.

We only ship within the continental United States. Our puppies are shipped out of Columbus International in Ohio. We prefer to ship with Delta (800-352-2746), but they do not fly into all airports. If Delta does not service your area, we prefer to use Northwest Airlines (which has merged with, or been bought out by, Delta airlines) (1-800-352-2727). If you plan on flying in to pick up your puppy, Southwest (1-800-435-9792) has a great price on flying your puppy in cabin as carry-on luggage. The cost of shipping is approximately $550 to have your puppy shipped to you. The shipping cost is in addition to the purchase price of the puppy. The shipping cost includes - the cost of the plane flight, airline-approved carrier (dog crate), any vaccinations that may be required by either Ohio or your state for the shipment of the puppy, and veterinarian's health certificate. We also include a few of the puppy's favorite toys to keep it busy while traveling!

Other Useful Information

Appointments: If you have made an appointment to meet with us, please be on time. If you know you are going to be more than 15 minutes late for your appointment or can not make your appointment at all, please call us and we can reschedule your appointment. If we feel that you are not being serious about getting one of our puppies, or considerate of our time as well as other potential buyers that may have wanted an appointment with us, we reserve the right not to reschedule your appointment.

Picking Up Your Puppy: Please be sure to bring a dog crate to safely transport your puppy home with you. If you do not have a dog crate with you, you will risk our not letting you take your puppy or cat home with you until such time as you have obtained a dog crate. This provision is for the safety and well-being of the puppy or dog while traveling in your vehicle.

Placement Package

We have developed a fairly extensive packet that contains photos, pedigree, articles on care and health information, and more. Our German Shepherd Dog Placement Package.

What Now?

Once you have reviewed the above Placement Policies, the next steps are as follows:

First: The potential puppy buyer should fill out and submit our on-line Application. Once we have received your completed Application, we will contact you and answer any further questions that you may have after reviewing the information on our web site (i.e., our Placement Policies). Please spend some time reviewing our web site as there is a lot of information that a puppy buyer will find informative and helpful during the process of finding a companion for themselves.

Second: Meeting with you and having you visit our home, and meeting and spending time with our dogs is the next step. Our dogs are our pets and companions, as well as competitive working and service dogs. We feel it is important that you are given the opportunity to meet, interact and play with any or all of our dogs in order to get a sense of the type of temperament and personality our dogs have.

At the time of your tour, we will answer any additional questions you may have, let you know the pertinent information to any up-coming litter including: date of mating, names of the breeding dogs, (if the sire is not an on-site stud dog - we will show you pictures and a pedigree and answer any questions you may have about him), expected due date of any puppies, expected date of placement/socialization meeting, and expected date of puppy testing, and expected date the puppies can be placed.

Third: After the tour, if you would like to be included on our wait-list for a puppy, we require a deposit (one-half of the purchase price) to secure a position on our wait-list. We offer a written receipt. This receipt guarantees you a full refund if we cannot obtain a good personality match with you and a puppy per your preferences and description on your completed Application. The deposit is also refundable if there are not enough puppies in a litter relative to your placement on the wait-list (i.e., we have a wait-list of 8 people, but our female only whelps 6 puppies and you are the 8th person on the wait-list). A deposit is NOT refundable if a puppy buyer decides not to wait for one of our puppies after being placed on the wait-list. The reason for this policy is that we only have a wait-list of 5-8 people at a time for any potential litter and therefore, will turn potential buyers away. As we are NOT a large breeding facility and we very carefully screen our buyers, we do not have a lot of potential buyers/homes lined up like a backyard breeder, commercial breeder, or puppy mill. THEREFORE, WE ASK THAT YOU CAREFULLY CONSIDER BUYING A PUPPY BEFORE MAKING A DEPOSIT.

Fourth: During the socialization period for the puppies, the puppy buyers on our wait-list are required to come to our home for at least one evening (or a time during the day) for puppy socialization and to have a meeting regarding the placement of the puppy. At this meeting, we will explain and answer any questions about our written contract, our hip and elbow written guarantees, what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you. At this time, you will have as much time as you need to spend with the litter. Once you have spent time with the puppies, we ask that you tell us your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice of the puppies you are most interested in. At this time, you will receive your puppy packet which has a tremendous amount of information to help you with your new companion. You should use the next week or so to review the puppy packet, puppy proof your home, order dog food and supplements (in accordance with our Health Guarantee), buy toys, obtain a crate for housebreaking, or any last minute things you may need to do before bringing your puppy home. There is a recommended reading list in the puppy packet, so you may wish to spend the week doing a little reading about puppies and training methods.

The personality testing is usually performed within one week to 10 days of the date of our placement/socialization meeting. Once we have the results of the test, we will contact you and let you know which puppy most closely matches your Application. At this time, we will schedule you for a day and time in the morning to pick up your puppy as this is less traumatic for the puppy.
